Alliance Regional Water Authority Pipeline Project wins ENR Texas-Louisiana’s 2024 Award of Merit

The College of the Mainland marked two major milestones in its 2023 voter-approved bond program with a groundbreaking ceremony early November in Texas City for the new Public Services Center and Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) won the ENR Texas & Louisiana’s 2024 Regional Award of Merit in the Water/Environment category for its role in the Alliance Regional Water Authority (ARWA) Phase 1B Segment A&B Pipeline Project.

LAN was the lead design engineer for the Segment A Pipeline, a critical component of Phase 1B of ARWA’s Treated Water Supply Program. LAN provided comprehensive design, bid and construction phase services for approximately 17-miles of 48-inch water transmission main and associated features. The new infrastructure is addressing the region’s growing demand for treated water.

At the ENR award ceremony celebrated on December 6, 2024, in Houston, Texas, Travis Michel, PE and Team Leader for LAN said, “We are honored to receive this recognition for a project that is vital for fulfilling the future water needs of this region. This award reflects the collaboration of our team and our commitment to deliver challenging projects on schedule and within budget. This project is a lifeline for generations to come.” added Michel.

The Phase 1B project encompassed multiple pipeline segments forming a large-scale water supply system. Segment A spanned 17 miles of 42 and 48-inch pipelines, which connected the ARWA water treatment plant in East Caldwell County to Lockhart, Texas. The system integrated with Segment B, which added another 17.4 miles of pipeline.

The pipelines deliver treated water to growing communities, including Kyle, Buda, and San Marcos. Another notable achievement includes the installation of 30 miles of fiber optic cable connecting critical components such as ARWA’s raw water infrastructure, water treatment plant, pipelines, and booster pump station.

Judged by ENR Texas & Louisiana’s industry experts, the ARWA Pipeline Project stood out among 115 submissions across five states, underscoring its innovative design and impact.
